Google Business Profile Checklist for Service Businesses
Checklist · 11 min read · Updated 14 Oct 2026
A step-by-step Google Business Profile checklist for Singapore aircon, cleaning, handyman, tutor and clinic businesses: categories, services, photos and more.A well-optimised Google Business Profile is a complete, accurate and active one: the right primary category, every service you offer listed, a clear service area, real photos, correct hours, and a habit of posting and replying. For a Singapore service business such as aircon servicing, cleaning, handyman work, tutoring or a clinic, most of the gains come from getting the basics right and keeping them current.
Why a service business needs a checklist, not a one-off setup
Most owners fill in the profile once, on the day they claim it, and never touch it again. Meanwhile their competitors add photos, answer questions and keep hours accurate. When a customer searches "aircon servicing near me" on their phone, Google shows a handful of businesses in a map pack. Whether you appear, and whether the person taps you, depends partly on how complete and trustworthy your profile looks.
A service business has a special challenge. You often have no shop for people to walk into, you travel to the customer, and your "storefront" is a WhatsApp number. That makes the profile your shop window. The checklist below is built for that reality. If you have not yet claimed or verified your listing, start with our Google Business Profile guide for Singapore and how to verify it, then come back here.
Which profile fields tend to matter most for a service business
A qualitative guide, not a ranking formula. Nobody outside Google knows the exact weights, so use this to decide where to spend your first hour.
Tells Google what kind of business you are.
Strong trust signal for the person choosing.
Matches the words customers use.
Stops wrong enquiries and builds confidence.
Helps a stranger decide to call.
Shows you are active; small but cheap.
Step 1: Name, category and contact details
Business name
Use your real trading name, exactly as it appears on your van, invoices and website. Do not add keywords such as "Cheap Aircon Servicing Singapore 24 Hours" to the name. Google treats that as a guideline violation and can suspend the profile. If your registered name is long, use the name customers actually know you by.
Primary and secondary categories
Your primary category is the single biggest signal. Search for what your competitors use, but choose for your own business. An aircon company might choose an air conditioning repair or servicing category as primary, then add secondary ones only for work you genuinely do. A tutor will look for tutoring or education categories. A clinic should pick the category that matches its licence and main service rather than a broad "health" label.
Add a few secondary categories, not twenty. Too many dilute the message and can attract enquiries you cannot serve.
Phone, website and appointment links
Use a number you answer. For many Singapore trades, that is the WhatsApp number on your phone. Link to a website page that matches the profile, ideally one with a clear next step. Our guide on adding a WhatsApp button to your website explains how.
Basics checklist
Identity
- Business name matches your signage, invoices and website
- Primary category matches what customers search for
- 2 to 4 honest secondary categories
- Phone number you actually answer
Links
- Website link goes to a relevant page, not a broken one
- Booking or enquiry link added if you have one
- Opening hours checked against reality
- Special hours set for public holidays and Lunar New Year
Step 2: Services, descriptions and service areas
Add every service, with a plain description
The services section is where you list the jobs you take. An aircon company might list chemical wash, general servicing, gas top-up, installation and troubleshooting. A cleaner might list one-time home cleaning, move-in or move-out cleaning, and office cleaning. Write one or two short sentences for each in the words a customer would use. Avoid jargon unless you explain it.
Whether you show prices on the profile is your choice. If you do, keep them accurate and up to date. Out-of-date prices create awkward conversations and bad reviews.
Write a business description that answers three questions
Who are you, what do you do and where do you do it? Mention the neighbourhoods, how long you have operated if you want to, and how customers can reach you. Skip the superlatives. "Family-run aircon servicing for HDB flats and condos in the east and central areas" says more than "best quality service".
Business description starter
Edit and useSet your service area carefully
If you travel to customers, you can list the areas you serve instead of showing a street address. Choose the neighbourhoods or postal areas you can reach in a reasonable time. Over-claiming the whole island may sound impressive, but it invites enquiries you cannot fulfil. If you work from home, read how to hide your home address before you finalise this step.
Step 3: Photos and videos that build trust
A stranger deciding who to let into their home wants proof that you are real. Upload photos of your team in uniform, your van, the tools you use, and before-and-after shots of finished jobs. Always ask the customer before showing their home, and avoid anything that reveals an address, a face or a unit number. This is also good practice under the PDPA, which covers personal data; check the current guidance at pdpc.gov.sg if you are unsure.
- A clear logo and a cover photo that shows what you do.
- Team photos, so the person at the door is not a surprise.
- Job photos with the customer's permission and no identifying details.
- New photos regularly, for example after each notable job.
Do not upload stock photos pretending to be your work. Customers can tell, and it undermines every other signal on the page.
A simple photo habit
Finish the job
Take 2 photos before you leave.
Check privacy
No unit numbers, faces or documents.
Upload weekly
Batch them in 5 minutes.
Step 4: Posts, Q&A and messaging
Posts
Google Business Profile lets you publish short updates: an offer, an event, a seasonal reminder. For an aircon company, a reminder to service before a busy season is useful. For a tutor, an announcement about new class slots. Keep each post short, with one clear action. Do not post for the sake of it; one useful post a month is better than a burst followed by silence. If you want a steady rhythm without remembering, our social post scheduler on the Website.sg plan helps you line them up in advance.
Questions and answers
Anyone can ask a question on your profile, and anyone can answer, including competitors and strangers. Check it regularly, and answer the common questions yourself: do you serve my area, do you charge a visit fee, do you work on weekends. Short, honest answers reduce the number of repeated WhatsApp messages you get.
Messaging
Messaging features have changed over time and may vary by region, so check the current options at support.google.com/business. Whatever channel you offer, only switch it on if you can reply quickly. A message that sits for two days is worse than no button at all. Many Singapore customers expect a WhatsApp reply within minutes. Our guide to reply speed and customer enquiries explains why.
Check the current rules. Google updates Business Profile guidelines, category lists and feature availability. Before you change your name, category or address, read the latest guidance at support.google.com/business.
Step 5: Hours, attributes and reviews
Hours
Set the hours when you answer the phone or WhatsApp, not the hours you wish you worked. If you are by appointment only, say so in the description. Update special hours before public holidays. Wrong hours are one of the quickest ways to collect an irritated review.
Attributes
Attributes are small labels such as online appointments, wheelchair accessibility or languages spoken, depending on your category. Tick only those that are true. If you speak Mandarin, Malay or Tamil with customers, saying so can make a difference to the person choosing.
Reviews and replies
Reviews are the part you cannot set up once and forget. The healthy approach is to ask every customer after every job, reply to every review, and never pressure anyone. Our guide on how to get more Google reviews covers the asking, and how to reply to a negative review covers the hard ones. With Website.sg, a one-tap WhatsApp review request goes out after each job, and AI-drafted replies are prepared for you, but you approve every one before it is published.
Where to spend your next hour
Place each fix by how quickly you can do it and how much it helps a customer decide.
Do first
Fix hours, add missing services, correct the category.
Schedule it
Build a steady review habit and a photo library.
Fill in when free
Attributes, a first post, Q&A answers.

Long posts nobody reads, keyword-stuffed text.
A worked example: a small aircon company in Tampines
Imagine a two-van aircon servicing business in the east. Its profile uses a generic "repair service" category, lists only "aircon" as one service, shows hours of 9am to 6pm although the owner replies until 9pm, and has six photos of the same van.
In one afternoon the owner changes the primary category to a specific air conditioning servicing one, adds five services with short descriptions, sets the service area to the estates the team actually covers, corrects the hours to match WhatsApp replies, and uploads a team photo and three job photos. Nothing here promises a ranking. It simply gives a customer comparing three businesses more reasons to trust this one.

- Week 2

Start asking every customer after the job.

Common mistakes to avoid
Do
- Use your real business name and a precise primary category
- Keep hours and special hours accurate
- Reply to every review, good or bad
- Add photos of your own work with permission
- Check the profile once a month
Avoid
- Stuff keywords into the business name
- List services you do not offer to attract clicks
- Claim the whole island as your service area
- Ignore questions and reviews for months
- Buy reviews or ask friends to write fake ones
The last point deserves emphasis. Fake or incentivised reviews breach Google's policy and can lead to reviews being removed or the profile being restricted. Honest, steady asking is the only approach worth building.
Your monthly maintenance routine
Put a 20-minute reminder in your calendar on the first of each month. If you run Website.sg, the single inbox keeps WhatsApp, web chat and forms together, so enquiries from your profile and website do not get lost.
